Men's Coaching Staff

Eric Rothwell - Varsity Head Coach

Eric has been the head coach of Walnut Hills High School for the past 9 years and was coach of the year in the in 2011 and 2014.   Last season, Walnut suffered their first losing season under coach Rothwell going 5-9-3. In the past, he has led his team to a Sectional Tournament Championship (2013, 2014), the last FAVC championship (2011), the inaugural ECC Championship (2012), and another ECC championship in 2014. His over all record is 80-44-22 (.623). In the off-season, Eric coaches a U18  and U9 team for Kings Hammer Soccer Academy.  In 2016, his Kings Hammer team won the KPL and the KY state cup.   Most recently, he has also undertaken the role KY ODP state coach for the 2004s.   Eric also coached at CUP for 9 years, where he has coached teams through MRL, OSSL, and national premier tournaments such as Disney, CASL, and Jefferson CUP. In 2014, Eric finished a 4 year cycle at CUP where 16 of his players have signed to play college soccer next year. In 2013 and 2014, he ran the local soccer program for U6, U5, and U4 in Delhi, Ohio before he moved on to coach a season at Cincinnati West with a U7 team.   Through both High School and club, Eric has helped many young men through the college selection process and has many former players who played or are playing in all divisions of college soccer.

He currently holds a USSF "A" License, Sports Management Degree, a Masters in Education, and has completed Principal Administrative classes. As a player, Eric played at Wheeling Jesuit University from 1998-2001, where he was part of of 2000 team that went undefeated in the regular season and reached the final 8 in the Division II tournament. Before College, he played for Beavercreek High School (1998) and for the Centerville Galaxies. During the day, Eric teaches 6th grade at Bridgetown Middle School in Oak Hills school district. He currently resides in Hyde Park, OH with his wife Jessica and two children (Sofia and Owen). "I live for the game. Zach Fleischer - Varsity Asst. Coach

This is Zach’s fifth year as part of the Walnut Hills Junior High coach. As a four-year Letterman at Hanover College, Zach made the Division III HCAC playoffs all four years. He holds a USSF E License and continues to improve his coaching acumen. This past spring Zach worked at the Kings Hammer Soccer Club, coaching players in the U7, U8, and U12 age groups. He is happy to help grow the Walnut program and contribute to the development of our younger student athletes. His primary goal is to get our players to a level where they can make the transition to the High School teams.










Keagan Malott - JV Eagles Head Coach

Keagan Malott graduated from Walnut Hills in 2010 and played soccer all 4 years. Keagan played for Coach Rothwell in 2009, where he was know for attacking down the flanks with his endless stamina. While playing for Walnut, Keagan was known for scoring in the last minute of regulation to send Walnut to the next round of the State Tournament. 

The first year after he graduated he became the assistant JV coach for one season and then the head JV coach the year after. He is now entering his 8th season as a member of the Walnut Hills soccer program and loving every minute of it.  Keagan also coaches at Kings Hammer Soccer Club with the u-15 age group. He currently has a US soccer D and E coaching license and plans on obtaining his C license within the year. Keagan has one more semester until he graduates from the University of Cincinnati with a bachelors in Marketing.    Coach Malott has demonstrated a great talent in developing players for the varsity level. In 2014, he led the JV Eagles to an impressive 10-2-4 record only conceding 4 goals all season. He is looking forward to another great season of Walnut Hills Soccer.  Most recently, he led his Jv Eagles team to a 13-1-2 record in 2017 scoring 71 goals and only conceding 7.. 

Mark Uhl - Varsity Assistant Coach

This is Mark Uhl’s 6th season assisting with the Walnut Hills soccer program. He has previously assisted with JV Blue and this will be his first season with the JV Eagles. Mark has a strong passion for soccer and brings leadership, organization, experience and responsibility to the team. While earning his undergraduate degree in Marketing at Thomas More College he also played all four years for the Saints soccer team, winning two conference championships and each time earning a berth into the NCAA tournament. Mark is soon to obtain his ‘D’ coaching license and looks forward to using his education to help improve the Walnut Hills soccer program. Outside of soccer Mark works at INC Research as a Global Feasibility Analyst.

Scott is in his 8th year as Coach of Walnut Hills JV Blue team. Last year, Scott continued growing the Walnut program with great success as they went 11-6-1. Scott has been a part of Walnut Hills Soccer Staff for the past 9 years, where he previously worked with the Junior High team. Scott is looking forward to a new year in preparing his players towards a future with the varsity program.







Charlie Hatch - JV Blue Assistant Coach

Charlie Recently graduated from Ohio University with a major in Journalism.  Charlie is a Walnut Hills Soccer Alum who played for Walnut for 6 years.  He is a passionate about soccer and looks to give back to the game.  By day Charlie is always reporting on several sports through various media outlets and his own website at https://charliehatch.com/  












Griffin Hersh- JH Head Coach / Goalie Coach

This is Griffin's 2nd year coaching at Walnut.  Last season, Coach Hersh led the Jr. High team to a 15-1-1 record and won the Jr. High City Tournament.  The team scored 87 goals and only conceded 15!  Griffin graduated from Walnut in 2014 after playing 6 years at the school as a goalie and midfielder.  In Griffin's senior year, Walnut started 9-0, the best start in school history and finished with one of the best records in school history.  He has an extreme passion for sports and coaching.  Currently, he is attending UC, where he studies Fiance and Business Analytics with a desire to develop analytics for soccer.
