Thursday’s soccer match between Walnut Hills and Moeller lived up to this new rivalry
.   The Eagles have played the Crusaders 5 times in the past 3 years with Walnut Hills has defeating Moeller twice last season, the second time, knocking them out of the state tournament. The aggressive play and fouls would come in bunches, and the referee would be forced to give several yellow cards.

The Crusaders held their own through a scoreless first half, with Walnut having two goals disallowed and going narrowly wide on two other changes.  Midway through the second half, Moeller went ahead on a set-piece goal. The Eagles were not finished, and came back to tie the game on Jess Carr’s cross, put away by senior Kyle Gilioli.

The turning point of the match occurred on a yellow card against the Eagles.  Sophomore Ibra Goumballe rushed the keeper.  The altercation  led to Goumballe being issued a yellow card and emotions boiled.   The Eagles mustered all the energy they had and played the last ten minutes with extreme intensity, unable to be matched by Moeller in the final seconds of the game.

After a Walnut's corner was cleared, Goumballe raced down the sideline and put a cross in that found senior Daniel Bundschuh in the penalty box for a game-winning header with 5 seconds left in the game. The 500+ fans in attendance went NUTS.     "It was an emotional and intense game," said Coach Rothwell.  "I am glad the boys stayed mentally tough and persevered."

Walnut has a little turn around time as they play Fairfield Saturday night 7pm at home.  Fairfield recently won at Loveland 2-1.

JV Eagles tied Moeller 2-2 with goals from Paul Fixler and Henry Neff.

Also in action was JV Blue.  Goals came from Noah Ziemba (assist Senna Adachi) Colin Moreno (assist Senna Adachi), Colin Moreno, Ryan Henderson, and Nick Stanton.  First half clean sheet from Matt Sutkamp.
