This past Tuesday, Walnut played their rival Turpin with only needing a point (tie) to take the title. The game started with neither team really grasping control. Walnut would break through when Senior Tre Shockley would net home a lose ball on a set piece. The celebrations were short lived as Turpin unleashed a flurry of attacks going with 3 forwards. About 12 minutes from half, Turpin regained the lead off of two long throw in quick succession. After the break, Walnut went very aggressive. This tactic paid off as they controlled the second half having several shots and all the possession Still with ten minutes left, the game was in favor of Turpin. The Eagles kept calm and didn't over exert their efforts. With about 5 minutes left Walnut went with just one defender and the goalkeeper up at half. You could almost feel the goal coming. It wasn't until the last 79 seconds that the goal finally came. Freshman Jess Carr heaved his throw towards the box, where Senior Tre Shockley got a touch to flick on. Jr. Andrew Moore was there and buried the sitter. Walnut would hold on to become the first ECC champions. The win gives Walnut their 2nd championship in 2 years. It was a special night and big thanks goes out to the incomparable drum-line, who performed before and at halftime. Walnut plays Wyoming on tonight in their last regular season game. JV Eagles fell to Turpin's JV 1-0 in a match that proved soccer can be cruel. With all the possession and majority of shots, the Eagles dominated, but it didn't matter because of one counter attack. |
