On their last game of the regular season, the Walnut Hills Eagles boys soccer took on the #1 rated division 2 Wyoming Cowboys on their senior night. The game started with boy teams going back and forth, but when Wyoming made some changes they quickly attacked the Eagles defense. Walnut hung with them but only managed a few opportunities to score themselves. At half, it was knotted up at zeros. In the second half, Walnut changed formations to go more on the attack and it almost paid off as several corners and attacks produced several loose balls in the Wyoming box. Walnut's pressure though would let go to Cowboys possession There was a period in the second half where Wyoming played keep ball for about 10 minutes. Not sure if it was fatigue or just lack of concentration, but the Eagles just couldn't stop the ball. The Cowboys tiki-taka passing would pay off when they found a man open at the top of the box wide open. Goal keeper Logan Wiedmann, who stopped several of shots through out the night, didn't have a chance for this one. The stage was set once again. Down by a goal and less than ten minutes to go. Wyoming kept possessing and attacking, but the Eagles stepped up their counter attacks. It looked like the this one was a loss, when Wyoming took the ball to the corner with a less than minute left. Senior Adam Brown dug the ball out with a tackle and pumped the ball forward. Senior Tre Shockley took the long pass and beat his man, only to get fouled with 20 seconds left. All the Walnut players ran towards the goal as senior Sebastian Ganz sprinted to take the kick. Ganz's shot/cross was met by Wyoming's keeper and Senior defender Chaz Morgans head. Morgan prevailed and the game was tied! It was a special moment for the boys ,and one I am sure Chaz will remember since he said on senior night that, "his favorite soccer moment was still to come." The Eagles end the year at 9-3-4 and as ECC champs! On Monday Walnut will take Withrow at home at 7pm. if they win, they will most likely face Moeller at home, in what promises to be a heated match. Earlier in the year Walnut escaped with a 1-0 win, see recap). The JV Eagles ended their season with a win over Wyoming to end the year with a record of 12-3-1, the best record for the JV Eagles in 5 years! Congrats to Coach Keagan and the boys! |
