Walnut defeated GCL power Moeller on Thursday night in their home opener. The game was back and forth for much of the match. Eagles defense, lead by Seniors Chaz Morgan and Harrison HIldebrandt, proved for the 2nd game in a row to be organized enough to earn a shut out. Sophomore Goal Keeper Logan Wiedmann kept a shut out with 11 saves, one of which was top class on a 20 yard free kick (see highlight below). The game appeared headed for 0-0 draw until Andrew Moore wrong sided his man and earned a pentalty. Senior Adam Brown powered the spot kick in for the winner with about 5 minutes to play. All the boys played extremely hard and focused earned, what I would call a great "team win" Walnut travels to Anderson on Tuesday (7pm) in their ECC league opener. Last years game had good intensity and went down to the wire with Walnut winning 3-2. Come out support the boys! In the JV Eagles match, Sam Jordan-Keller scored a pk as they tied 1-1. The JV Eagles controlled most of the match, but failed to convert several opportunities. Moeller equalized midway through the 2nd half of free kick. The JV Eagles are looking forward to their next match and the anticipated return of sophomores Alex Beck and Adam Cooper. |
