Written by Eagle Fan August 23rd, 2014 A stormy Saturday night saw the match up between Walnut Hills and Fairfield get pushed back to a 7:45 kickoff. The game began in a strong rain, which saw Fairfield seize the first 5 minutes of the match and come close on a long throw opportunity. Senior keeper Logan Weidmann made a nice save to keep the score at 0-0 early. Walnut settled in after that and produce attack after attack. Credit to Fairfield as they had 2 goal line clearance from defenders to keep the score tied at the half. The second half began with Walnut picking up where they left off. Immediately going close once again off a set piece. Fairfield's goal would come 12 minutes later against the run of play when a long throw was deflected on. An eagle defender went to clear the ball from his own 10 yard line only to have the ball deflected off his shin into the opposite side of his own net. Walnut responded with more attacks but failed to work the keeper enough on their shots. In the last 10 minutes, the Indians came up big with another goal clearance. Fairfield showed great composure and game management as they sought to run out the clock. Walnut would go close two more times, but fail to get the ball into the net. "It was an unlucky match and showed what can happen if you fail to have composure in front of goal," said coach Rothwell. "In past years, we have been on the otherside of these kind of games, and now have to learn to play with the target on our backs." Walnut looks rebound and get healthy as they expect to get back 4 players in the next 10 days. The Eagles begin league play at Anderson Thursday 7pm. JV Eagles defeated Fairfield's JV 2-0. Colin Malott and Jake Hipskind scored. JV Eagles stay unbeaten. Also in action this past Saturday was JV Blue, who tied Oak Hills 1-1. Ryan Henderson scored the tying goal with only 90 seconds left. JV Blue stays undefeated! Lastly, in other news, Walnut Hills Soccer will be streaming their home games live through Youtube!
